Training mental skills is often compared to training physical skills ⬇️ They both take effort, repetition, and application. Like physical or sport-specific training, mental skills training prepares us to perform at a high level consistently, builds on our strengths, and helps us adapt to obstacles along the way. We often don’t wait until something is “wrong” or feels off to lift weights, hit the gym, or get extra reps. We do those things to feel stronger, pursue our goals, and be ready to compete. Training.. Awareness Self-Talk Focus Concentration Confidence And more.. is similar. These skills not only allow us to take more control over the way we perform and play, but they can help us feel more joy, excitement, and motivated in the process💥 📸: @leahs_lens_ #mentalperformance #sportpsychology #maine #training #womeninsports

Feeling confident takes work. Waiting to feel confident before taking action only prevents us from making progress. Feeling confident comes from: Courage. Trying new things, even when there’s nerves. Making mistakes and using them as information for what needs adapting. Focusing on what is in our control instead of being distracted by what isn’t. And, reinforcing self-belief through what we say to ourselves. What we say impacts where we put our focus and how we respond. Try, reflect, adapt, repeat. 🔄 #maine #mentalperformance 📸: @leahs_lens_

Hey everyone! 💥 I’m Meghan, founder of Stride Mental Performance and a Mental Performance Consultant for athletes and leaders. I started Stride with a mission of empowering athletes and competitors with the mental skills and strategies essential for consistent high-performance and well-being. My passion for mental performance and sport psychology began during my time as a collegiate ice hockey player. Now, this passion fuels my commitment to creating opportunities and performance cultures where individuals can learn, make mistakes, adapt, and take more control over their performance, all while having more fun. At Stride, we believe high-performance is rooted in: ☑️ Purpose - what fuels your fire and what keeps you grinding when things are challenging ☑️ Process - emphasis is placed on the process of growth & improvement serves as a prime motivator ☑️ Preparation - awareness is the foundation for training mental skills (focus, concentration, confidence, etc.) & how we prepare using these skills allows us to dial in when it’s go-time ☑️ Pivots - reflection & adaptability allows us to respond to adversity and continuously grow toward our goals If you’re ready to commit to your mental game, DM me or visit Stride’s website at the link in bio. Let’s get to work and stride forward, together. 📸: @leahs_lens_

High performing teams are fueled by cultures that foster internal motivation by prioritizing ownership, progress, and connection 💥 During today’s session, high school captains discussed how they foster empowering cultures on their teams. Here’s a few shifts we discussed: “I am the driver” : Internal motivation fades when autonomy and choice are controlled by others. When leaders foster cultures that empower teammates to make their own decisions, feel connected to personal values, and contribute to team processes, OWNERSHIP is the result. Team members drive their own car, while the GPS (team values, non-negotiates, and process) leads the way to the destination 🚗 “I am getting better” : Internal motivation is fueled by the feeling of “getting better”/improvement/growth/development. When leaders highlight small wins and guide team members through challenges, teammates build “evidence” to trust in themselves. The shift in focus is the turned towards PROGRESS, not only on the rewards. Success will come 🏆 “I belong here” : When we feel connected to our teammates and anchored in an environment where we are celebrated for who we are as people, internal drive booms. When leaders truly value teammates, CONNECT with, and celebrate each other, a culture of belonging is created. When we feel like we belong, we feel free to take risks, be challenged, and fail forward ➡️ Just the start of big conversations with this group of athletes. Can’t wait to see what great ideas they share next! #mental #mentalperformance #maine #sportpsychology #leadership
